ELECTIONS!
Elections will take place at the March General Body Meeting on March 24th, E1 103, 12:50-1:40
Officer Positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer are elected, and will be voted in at the March meeting. All other positions are Directorship positions, these you can apply for, they are not voted in. Please consider participating in SWE at a leadership level next year. This looks great on your resume, offers valuable experience, and is an easy way to make a big impact on campus!
If you plan to run for an Officer position notification to swe@iit.edu is due by Monday, March 22nd and have a short (a few minutes) speech prepared for the General Body Meeting on March 24th including why you are running and what you plan to do to benefit the organization, also write up your speech and email that to swe@iit.edu to be used in online voting. Directorship applications are due March 31st. If you run for an Officer position and are not elected, you are welcome (and encouraged!) to apply for a directorship.
HINT: If you plan to run for a position you are highly encouraged to attend upcoming events such as the Women’s Month Celebration Tea to get to know members and gain exposure!
Pi Mile Run to aid Haiti!
Engineers Without Borders and Haiti Outreach is partnering with the Society of Women Engineers to bring IIT a “Pi Mile” Run for Disaster Relief. This run is part of the Pi Week celebrations with SWE. There will be a minimum $5 donation, with all of the proceeds going towards Haiti Outreach, an NGO who’s goal is to help develop Haiti. They are currently allotting much of their resources to the earthquake relief from January.
The run, which is a little over a 5k, will be held Saturday, April 3rd, beginning at 3:14 pm. The race will be starting at 31st Street Beach, with snacks and refreshments served after the race is over. There will be gift card prizes for the male and female with the fastest times, and also for the person or team that raises the most money.
Come out, bring your friends, have a good reason to get in shape for summer, and enjoy the nice weather that Chicago is going to be having soon. Sign up the day of the race, or there will be a sign up on the MTCC bridge during meals starting next week. The entry fees will be collected the day of the race so there will be extra time to collect donations!
